A Cornwall MP has resigned from her role as a councillor following her election in December.
Cherilyn Mackrory, who was elected MP for Truro and Falmouth at the General Election, was also Cornwall Council member for St Mewan near St Austell.
However the Conservative MP has announced that she has resigned as a councillor, which is expected to trigger a by-election.
A notice of a casual vacancy in St Mewan was published by Cornwall Council yesterday. It states that an election will be held within 35 days if two electors request an election.
Mrs Mckrory stood in the General Election in December following the decision by Sarah Newton to not stand for re-election, having first been elected in 2010.
The newest of Cornwall's six Conservative MPs was elected with 46% of the vote and a 4,561 majority.
St Austell and Newquay MP Steve Double has announced that he has been promoted to Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Department of Health and Social Care.
He said: "I am pleased the Prime Minister has promoted me to the lead PPS for the Department of Health and Social Care.
"This follows on from my work in the department as a junior PPS last year and I am pleased to be now supporting Secretary of State for Health Matt Hancock direct, a post which carries greater responsibility.
"As before, serving and representing the people of the St Austell and Newquay constituency on local and national issues will always be my priority, and I will continue to use this position to ensure I am able to do this even more effectively."
