Truro and Falmouth MP welcomes community events for the Coronation
Truro and Falmouth MP Cherilyn Mackrory has welcomed plans for people in Cornwall and across the UK to volunteer and take part in community support for the coronation.
The plans which are well underway for the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla celebrate community, diversity, and the environment.
King Charles III's coronation will take place on Saturday 6 May but there are many events happening around the weekend.
Opportunities include the 'New to Nature' partnership programme, a National Lottery Heritage Fund traineeships for young people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to begin new careers in environmental organisations.
This programme continues the King's ongoing commitment to improving the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK since the founding of the Prince's Trust in 1976.
People and businesses are also encouraged to take part in The Big Help Out, a volunteer-led community initiative which pays tribute to the king's lifetime of public service.
Across Cornwall, numerous businesses are hosting events and activities which are open to everyone in the community to register and take part in.
These schemes form part of a wider series of events across the UK, with the goal to provide opportunities and community support but also for people to enjoy themselves and celebrate their communities.
Students between 8-18 have been invited to take part in a challenge to create poster designs to celebrate the Coronation. The themes of the competition include community, diversity, sustainability, and youth.
Neighbours and communities are also invited to come together for the Coronation Big Lunch. This nationwide party will take place on Sunday 7th May, and people are invited to register and organise them in their local areas.
Cherilyn said:
'What we do very well in Cornwall is community. We have solid towns and villages where hard-working people will always look out for each other.'
'This is a great chance to celebrate and have fun but also for all of us to get stuck in and help each other out. I saw how well the community came together during the pandemic, and I know we will see that repeated here.'
