Tributes have been paid to Falmouth Cricket Club stalwart Stephen Young known to many friends and cricketers as "Gnome" after his passing early this week.
Stephen Young passed away on Tuesday 6th April at Treliske Hospital.
The club has organised for a memorial bench to be placed at the ground and people are being encouraged to take a seat and think fondly of a "great little man".
In a tribute to Stephen, Falmouth Cricket Club said:
"Gnome joined the club in the early '70s playing U16's cricket before moving on to the 2nd eleven where he spent much of his playing career but also made numerous appearances for the first team and could have played at a higher level.
"When he finally hung his boots up Stephen stayed involved in cricket umpiring for many more years while remaining an ever-present member of the ground staff helping to keep the Fal up to standard."
Details of funeral arrangements are set to follow as soon as the club gets them.
A spokesperson for the cricket club added:
"Our thanks go out to all the staff at Langholm for taking care of Gnome throughout his later life."
Tributes also came in on social media for those associated with the club, one person commented:
"Will always remember his kindness and imparting his cricketing wisdom when coming through the youth teams into the men's set up.
Was always around helping out from what I can remember too, at the cricket and football clubs. Sending condolences to all his nearest and dearest." A second added: "Can remember his warm-up was to walk around the boundary and stopping to speak to me in the score box en route. RIP Gnome." A third said: "Sad news he was a true Falmouth Cricket Club man." Click here to see more from Falmouth Cricket Club.
