The Falmouth Cringe kicks off this week and adds new headline act with Kernow King Edward Rowe.

The Falmouth Cringe announces a new headline act for its inaugural festival - Edward Rowe AKA Kernow King.

Edward Rowe is a Cornish writer, actor and comedian from Roche. In 2009, Rowe created the character 'Kernow King', and has toured three successive stand-up shows around Cornwall, the UK and Australia.

As an actor, Rowe is best known for his lead performance in the BAFTA-winning film Bait, written and directed by Mark Jenkin. For his performance in Bait, Edward was longlisted for Most Promising Newcomer and Best Actor at the 2019 British Independent Film Awards. Recent television credits include Alex Rider, The Witcher, House of the Dragon and Strike.

As the Kernow King, Rowe is appearing at the inaugural Falmouth Cringe comedy festival this Friday (1st July) 9pm at The Poly. Tickets can be found on The Falmouth Cringe festival website.

Co-director, Franciska Earle, said:

"We're so excited that the Kernow King is performing at the inaugural Falmouth Cringe this Friday - as Cornwall's answer to other fringe comedy festivals, it wouldn't have felt right without him here."

The Falmouth Cringe is the first bespoke comedy festival of its kind in the South West of England and opens this Thursday (30th June) with Tim Key (Alan Partridge, The Witchfinder, Tim Key's Late Night Poetry Programme).

Working closely with 6 local, independent venues in Falmouth, the festival is bringing 25 comedy performances to the town to showcase talent from across the country and nurture and champion homegrown comedians. Other acts include television's Jayde Adams who will close the festival with her new act, 'Men, I Can Save You.'

The festival will give audiences in Cornwall the opportunity to enjoy high-quality comedy with a new fringe-style comedy festival to match others across the UK for the first time.

Co-director, Johanna Brooks, added:

"This festival has been a long time coming - the entire community in Falmouth is behind the festival and we've poured our heart and soul into it. We can't wait for The Falmouth Cringe to open this Thursday."
