In the last couple of hours, The Cornish Store, based on Arwenack Street was subject to a shoplifting attempt which resulted in two bottles of white wine being stolen.

Kevin Ayres, one of the owners of the store, posted on the Facebook page Your Falmouth High Street: "We've just had shoplifters, a man and woman working as a team.

"She is wearing Fila blue shoes has blue nail varnish a loaf of bread in an orange wrapper, missing teeth in the front, hair pinned back on one side late 30's/40's.

"He has glasses scruffy hair and generally scruffy. She talked general chit chat then left quickly he skipped in and stole 2 bottles of white wine."

The shoplifting follows a number of members on the page posting recently to warn others to watch out for known thief's.

Helen Richards, a staff member at The Cornish Store, told Nub News: "Earlier on she came in, long brown hair with a clip and she is wearing blue trainers. It was just the way she was talking about things, I was serving another customer, and I hoped she wasn't going to take anything.

"She took off, then, later on, a chap came in and I was talking to three customers, he was over by the drinks counter and I noticed him move some bottles because they clink.

"Then he left, I said excuse me, we have only got two bottles of Poldark white and they were both gone so I knew he had them.

"I followed him, and he gave the bottle to an accomplice on the steps, I then realised it was her and he walked off, I confronted them about it, but they denied it.

"I couldn't do anything about it, they were out there eating a pasty and he put the wine in her bag."

Helen, added: "There needs to be more police on the streets, who do you ask? Who do you tell?"

The incident comes amid Neighbourhood Watch Week, with Devon and Cornwall hosting events to celebrate the work done by thriving Watch associations.
