Residents speak out as string of violent and anti-social behaviour hits Falmouth

By The Editor 16th Sep 2021

Falmouth residents have been speaking following multiple incidents of violent and anti-social behaviour have taken place in the high street.

On Saturday (22nd August) at 2am, two men reportedly assaulted a young woman and her male friend at The Moor unprovoked.

The assault involved the female being repeatedly kicked and stamped on, which has left her badly bruised and struggling to walk.

In a post on social media, which has been shared over 800 times, the victim of the assault wrote: "I was chased, pushed and then kicked to the ground, one man proceeded to stamp on my head, kick me in the chest and drag me along the road.

"I was kicked in the ribs and the knees and had my phone kicked out of my hand whilst I was trying to call for help. My other friend was chased up the road and he was punched and kicked."

Falmouth Nub News has contacted the police for further information on this.

Falmouth police recently tweeted out that "anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated", following the arrest of a drunk male exhibiting abusive behaviour.

Last week (17th), Nub News reported on a man who was left seriously injured after an assault in Church Street.

A video showing the brawl circulated on social media, which sparked more discussion from residents on the need for something to be done.

At the beginning of the month (1st August), a 23-year-old man from Somerset was arrested for assault outside of Mangos Bar and Club.

The police previously told Nub News:

"Police were called to Mangos bar on Church Street, Falmouth, at around 1am on Saturday 1 August with a report that a man had assaulted two male members of the security staff on the door."

Yesterday an anonymous post on the popular student and resident Facebook page, Penryn Campus Fitfinder, called for action to be taken.

It read: "Over the past week I have heard from friends, witnessed myself and seen on the news. Violent attacks, sexual assaults and people uncontrollably drunk and vulnerable in Falmouth on the High Street.

"Whilst these happenings are tragic when they occur at any times, it makes me angrier that they are happening during a pandemic when the bars and clubs these are happening outside of are not following social distancing rules whatsoever.

"Something needs to be done, we can't be blaming the people getting themselves into these situations but we need to limit the easiness of getting people into them.

"This is a real shame, I came from a big city and coming down to Falmouth felt safer and more of a community, such a shame the way this is all heading."
