Residents object to plans for new properties in Swanpool

Plans have been approved for the erection of two dwellings on King Charles Street, Falmouth with residents objecting to the plans.

The proposed properties in Swanpool have been "approved with conditions" and are set to be two storeys with garages.

The plans read:

"Plot 1 is orientated with the frontage facing Penhale Road. Plot 2 is orientated with the frontage facing King Charles Street. Both plots have the principal living accommodation on the ground floor with bedrooms upstairs. The west-facing private gardens can be accessed directly with patio doors from the family kitchen dining room.

"The proposed properties are two storeys. They sit comfortably within their individual plots with sufficient area for generous private amenity garden space, detached double garages and each with off-road parking for four cars."

Residents have been left baffled after the construction is going ahead despite Cornwall Council and Falmouth Town Council reportedly rejecting the application.

Surrounding residents comments read:

"My property is adjacent to the west side of the site on the south-west boundary and my main concern is the potential loss of privacy which will impact my property and also which will potentially affect the privacy of the new proposed houses."

A second read:

"I object to this proposal as there is no demonstrable need for housing in the area. The only requirement for housing in this vicinity is for affordable homes, of which this development does not contribute.

"Additionally, the building of houses on the vacant space detracts from areas that are usable for recreation by local residents. The global pandemic has made the necessity for such open spaces ever more clear and as such this proposal would have a net negative impact."

A third read:

"I object against this. Swanvale, as part of Goldenbank, has become the largest residential estate in the UK with a single entrance. This has already strained the existing council services and local traffic.

"The site, as it stands, was promised as green area; to counter a large number of houses already packed in. My house sits directly behind the proposed development. The resultant noise and air pollution in further building also concerns me.

"Cornwall, and in particular Falmouth, has had so many housing developments created, which although sounds good for the local population to gain a house, seems to be more for second homeowners."
