A Falmouth resident has spoken to Nub News about his love story with a dog he rescued from a mistreated home.

Martin Van-Evelingen, Falmouth, found his dog Oscar when he visited a friend in Penzance back in 2014.

"He was in a garden tied up in the pouring rain with another dog, at the time I thought I wasn't able to offer any of them a home," Martin told Nub News.

Later that same day, Martin says he saw an advertisement on Facebook for a Labrador Cross looking for a new home.

Realising it was the same dog he had seen in the rain, he instantly replied and showed his interest.

Martin claims that he received numerous photos from the owner that show the mistreatment of Oscar.

"The photos showed me how Oscar was living in that property, a popped blow-up dog's bed on a single wooden framed bed, a bowl thick with dirt from not being cleaned after food each time.

He also says he "smelt of the sewers" and was clinically underweight for his breed when he picked him up to take him home.

Martin said: "When I took over ownership of Oscar he went to a Pamper Salon for a freshen up, a vets check to help him with Fleas, Worms, Ticks and an ear infection, these were a priority to sort out Oscars health needs."

Martin says that the owners turned hostile when they saw the good life he had given Oscar after taking it from them.

"I was threatened on social media by his previous owner and her son for giving Oscar a better life than they could have given him.

"They told me they were going to come and collect him, I will not allow Oscar to go anywhere other than in my care."

Now, Oscar lives at home with his inseparable best friend Bojo, a Blue Chihuahua.

"They sleep cuddled up in their throw, they play fetch together, they are joined at the hip," Martin continued.

"Oscar is the most laid back, non-aggressive, fun dog and captures everyone's heart that meets him.

"Oscar has helped me in a lot of dark times, where I locked the world out and Oscar gave me the company and encouragement to get up daily and enjoy life with him."
