Falmouth Town Council and residents have spoken out against Cornwall Council's decision to remove recycling banks in Falmouth and beyond.

Swanpool Car Park and Grove Place Car Park recycling banks will be removed on 10th August.

The council said:

"These recycling banks were put in place before we introduced our household recycling collections.

"Recycling is collected from every household in Cornwall every two weeks."

Mark Williams, Falmouth Town Planner, told Nub News:

"The Town Council are disappointed to see them go, as we like to see as much provision as possible offered to residents.

"Hopefully the new arrangements will be effective, that Cornwall Council will signpost these alternatives and crucially make sure the existing areas aren't fly-tipped.

"The Town Council did look at taking on the emptying of the banks themselves, but the cost was too much, and we may have been prevented from doing so anyway under the new county-wide refuse contract terms."

Falmouth residents have been speaking out against the decision too, with many feeling it will promote fly-tipping and littering.

One resident stated: "The Swanpool ones are used all the time. Such a shame."

Another resident said: "Not a good move by the council."

Cornwall Council will continue doing their fortnightly household collection and Waste and Recycling Centres remain open.
