Plans have been presented to turn the former site of Falmouth Marks & Spencer's into an innovation hub and foodhall.

Details and images of the proposal were released today as planners sought pre-application advice.

If it were to go-ahead, the site would bring together start-up businesses, local chefs, established companies and personal trainers.

The applicant, Anthony Dann, who has a similar scheme like this in Newquay, said:

"We want to build a community in the heart of Falmouth that feeds the local economy, provides jobs and training and helps Falmouth to grow."

"We plan to breathe new life into the iconic store and bring the community together.

"The project will be the biggest co-working project in Cornwall and the first food hall pergola roof garden, putting Falmouth on the map and showing that Falmouth is at the forefront of remote working and sustainable development in this new world.

"We are a forward-thinking company and have the financial backing to follow through on the project and make it a reality."

The plans will see the "hub" offer community events and provide a space for innovation and growth with local companies and freelancers coming together in the town - with the foodhall showcasing local chefs, providing jobs and in turn boosting local trade.
