Plans to demolish bungalows to make space for apartments revealed
'Much needed' plans to demolish three aged bungalows and replace them with six modern apartments have been submitted.
Cornwall Council's housing revenue account has submitted a pre-application to planners to ask for advice on the scheme which would provide six apartments split across three new buildings at Trevethan Gardens in Falmouth.
Cornwall Council owns more than 10,000 homes. These homes are funded and managed within a housing revenue account
The site which is already owned by the council currently consists of two semi-detached bungalows with a supporting document stating that the ground beneath starting to sink with the foundations of the properties.
The application states that: "This presents a much-needed opportunity to replace the 70's period properties with modern, fit-for-purpose, low-energy housing to support the significant need for accommodation in Falmouth."
Due to the "sharp, south-facing gradient of the site" the six units will be split across three separate buildings, which will be restricted to two storeys in height to minimise potential overlooking on neighbouring properties.
The proposed development remains in its infancy and aims to get an officer's view on the information provided.
Assessments will need to be made on subjects like impacts upon the local highway network as there is a minimum of one parking space needed per unit.
There are no listed buildings in close proximity to the site nor does it lie within a Conservation Area.
