Police and West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team were scrambled in the early hours of this morning to locate a child spotted walking through Falmouth.

A sighting of a young child wearing pyjamas was reported by security staff.

Devon & Cornwall Police officers and a dog handler had searched the immediate vicinity of the sighting, but with no sign of the child, the team were called to widen the search into the urban area.

A police spokesperson told Nub News:

"Police were called just after midnight this morning with a report of a girl aged around 12 years old walking near to the Woodlane entrance of the Falmouth University campus in her pyjamas.

"Police, including a dog handler, conducted extensive searches of the area until around 6am.

"Currently, there have been no missing persons reports that fit her description."

West Cornwall Search & Rescue Team added:

"Five-foot teams searched streets, alleys, gardens and parks until dawn."

With no sign of the child nor any further information or reports, the teams were stood down pending further investigations.
