Devon and Cornwall police have sent out an alert to warn people about scam callers following a recent incident in Padstow.

The message from DC Alert Officer, Linzi Berryman, stated:

"A phone call was made to a 92 year old female, the caller stated he was from Scotland Yard and asked the resident to withdraw £9000 from her account and told her not to tell anyone and that she was to tell the bank she was withdrawing the money to buy her grandchildren Christmas presents.

"The caller stated they would pay for a taxi to take her to the bank and return her to her home, they also give her the bank number to arrange to take the money out.

"Should anyone receive similar contact, please do not follow instructions, hang up and report this to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040, or online at www.actionfraud.police.uk"
