Police appeal following Falmouth collision

One man has been released under investigation.

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision on Christmas Eve.

Police were contacted at around 5:50pm on Monday 24 December following reports of a two vehicle collision on Melvill Road, Falmouth, near to the junction of Avenue Road.

The head-on collision involved a blue Volkswagen Golf and a blue BMW 3 series car; following the collision, two men who were in the BMW fled the scene. 

Emergency services attended the scene, including Police officers from Falmouth Police Station and officers from the Devon, Cornwall and Dorset Alliance Roads Policing Department

Motor Patrol Constable Richie Roome, said: "The driver of the Golf, a 31-year-old pregnant woman was trapped in her vehicle and her husband and young son also sustained minor injuries.

"At the time it was feared that the she had sustained serious injuries, thankfully that was not the case and after a night in hospital under precautionary observations, she was release and as is now at home with her family recovering.

"A 20-year-old man from Truro was later arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified, he has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

"We have already identified a number of witnesses, however, if anyone who has any information and was in the area from 5:30-6pm on Christmas Eve and has yet to speak to us, we would like to hear from you."
