An extension to a helicopter shed, eight new homes and an apartment building are all among the latest planning applications which have been submitted to Cornwall Council this week. Every week more than 100 applications are validated by the council and we have selected some of the more interesting proposals.

All planning applications submitted to the council have to be validated and are available for inspection by the public. Anyone is also allowed to submit comments about the applications – whether in support or objection.

The majority of planning applications are decided by planning officers at Cornwall Council under delegated powers. However, some applications will go before elected councillors who sit on planning committees.

No dates have been set for when the planning applications below will be determined. They can be viewed by going to the planning portal on Cornwall Council's website at www.cornwall.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/

Extension to helicopter shed

A man who uses a helicopter to get to work has applied for permission to extend his helicopter shed to provide a "flight planning room". Mr. M Lugg has submitted a planning application to Cornwall Council for the development at his home in Manaccan, near Helston.

The application states that the helicopter is for Mr. Lugg's personal use "generally when travelling to and from his home to his business". Planning permission was previously granted for the main shed in 2004 and more recently permission was granted for its use as helicopter storage.

Under the new proposals, Mr. Lugg is seeking to build a side extension to the shed for "the use of flight planning, maintenance equipment, and washroom facilities".

A design and access statement submitted with the plans explains: "The site will be used a maximum of once a day for an outward journey and once for an incoming journey to the applicant's business in Exeter. In reality, the use over the last 12 months has been more consistent around four or five times a month. The use is also particularly restricted during the winter months due to weather conditions."

Plans for eight new homes

A planning application has been submitted to build eight new homes on land at Hatt, near Saltash. The development would include four "starter homes" sold at 75 percent of the market rate and four homes for the open market.

Planning permission was previously refused by Cornwall Council for eight homes on the site at Huckberry Farm in Vollards Lane but was granted on appeal. The previous application, submitted in 2019, was for half of the homes to be for affordable rent and the rest for open market sale.

The new application is nearly identical to the previous proposals but with a change for the affordable housing element of the development. To find out more or to comment on the plans search for planning application number PA22/08149.

New apartment building planned for Falmouth

Plans have been submitted for the demolition of a property in Falmouth and replacement with a building of 14 apartments and leisure facilities. The proposals concern Harrogate House on Queen Mary Road.

A design and access statement submitted with the plans explains that the house was previously rented to seven students in self-contained studios. However, the building has since been condemned for renting as flats.

Under the plans, the new building would have a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments. The applicants are not looking to provide affordable housing on the site but would make a financial contribution for off-site affordable housing.
