Plans have been approved for housing on unused land behind Laburnum Hall.

Submitted by Mr Jones of Vicar and Churchwardens c/o Scott and Company, the development sees 2 new dwellings constructed to land to the rear of the church on Laburnum Drive.

The plot of land has been unused for many years and as a result, has become overgrown.

This application seeks to bring the land into a viable use for the parish, whilst facilitating the increase of funds for the PCC to use to maintain the upkeep of other buildings and land in the area.

The scheme also allows for a small car park area created adjacent to the church on the north side - to be used by people in the parish attending the church or community events.

However, there were some residents with concerns over the development with one of Oakfield Road saying:

"The buildings will reduce light into the property and the noise and dirt will be difficult to live with. I appreciate that this is a useful area but I feel that the houses will reduce the value of my property."

A second added:

"In principle, we are pleased that family homes are planned for this site, much needed in Falmouth. The plot is not being overdeveloped and the materials planned in the design look good.

"We are also pleased to see that parking is being provided for the hall users. And in these aspects, we support the application.

"But we do have a few queries about the information seen on the planning portal relating to drainage, boundary lines and we have major concerns (objections) with reference to height elevations and design elements that cause us privacy issues."
