Falmouth Vietnamese restaurant unveils handcrafted new look

A Falmouth restaurant serving Vietnamese noodle dishes has undergone a complete handcrafted transformation.

PhoBar, run by Tom and Emma, had been operating on Quay Street over the summer as strictly takeaway before closing at the beginning of September for a full refurb.

The pair have been working solidly for three months to transform the interior taking on all the work themselves, from the painting, signage, tables, and the bar. A lot of hard work has gone into the restaurant - with Tom even handcrafting the tables himself from Cornish Oak.

A brand new look for the restaurant brings new ideas. Tom and Emma told Nub News they want the space to showcase "local creativity" with local artists on the walls and create local connections.

The menu has also been adjusted with a new Summer Rolls starter and bringing back Pork Ribs. One of the principles of PhoBar is that the ingredients are sourced locally. The Spring Rolls are made with Falmouth Bay Crab, Trevarthen provides the meat, and the vegetables are from Fresh Point in Newquay - all right on your doorstep.

The drinks are sourced from Skinners Brewery, Loveday Gin (Penryn), and The Cornish Wine Company.

Quite a journey for Tom and Emma after starting out as a small pop-up at The Wheelhouse last year.

They opened the Quay Street takeaway on New Years Eve, and have now turned the space into a comfortable, cosy restaurant, welcoming customers back in for the first time this week.

They told Nub News:

"Opening night got quite busy it was brilliant. All the anxiety kind of left because it was so lovely to see people enjoying the space and the food.

"There was so much work to do, everything was covered in cladding, we had a temporary wall up that we needed to knock down, it looked a bit of a mess. Then it started to reveal itself when we gave it some colour. It has been a massive process, but we are really happy to finally be at this point."

PhoBar is open Wednesday to Saturday 6pm-9pm. You can order takeaway online via One Delivery. The restaurant is open for walk-ins or book your table by calling 07577422296. All takeaway Pho pots are 10% off.
