Students at Penryn College delivered over 40 boxes of food to the Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank, as the school continued its Christmas foodbank collection for the third consecutive year.

The donations weighed in at 486.7.kg – the largest in weight that the College has ever collected.

Reflecting on the kindness and goodwill of everyone in the community, Head of RE at Penryn College, Emma Teagle, who led this year's foodbank appeal at the school, said:

"We are always overwhelmed by the generosity of our students, their families, and members of staff, but this year it's even more special given the current circumstances, and it really demonstrates the togetherness of our local community.

"I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed towards providing for those less fortunate this year. I would also like to say a big thank you to OTS Minibus & Coach Hire for providing

us with transport free of charge."

All of the donated items - provided by pupils, parents/carers, and Penryn College staff - were collected from the beginning of December, and packed into boxes at the school.

Falmouth-based company, OTS Minibus & Coach Hire, provided a coach and driver free of charge to transport the hundreds of food items.

In addition to this year's foodbank donations, Penryn College students in Year 7 and the Area Resource Base (ARB) collected and donated items for the Cornwall Christmas Box appeal, providing

'Christmas in a box' for vulnerable families in Cornwall.

And speaking following the College's delivery of the items, Penryn & Falmouth Foodbank Administrator, Catherine Hansla, added:

"I would like to thank everyone who donated to the school's

collection, which totalled at a wonderful 486.7kg – we are very grateful."

Due to the pandemic, transporting the food and students to the Penryn & Falmouth Foodbank in a COVID-friendly manner was of paramount importance.

It was something that OTS Minibus & Coach Hire Bus Services Manager, Craig George, said everyone at the company was delighted to help out with.

He said:

"We were more than happy to help Penryn College with the delivery of the foodbank donations. We see the hard work that they do and we enjoy working with their students and staff very much."
