A Year 7 Penryn College student has raised over £350 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) following his lockdown '62k in January' run/bike/walk challenge.

Sampson's original aim was to raise £1 for every kilometre he completed, with an objective of running, cycling, or walking two kilometres each day.

He far exceeded his expectations, completing over 80k and raising more than five times the original fundraising target of £62.

Indeed, after the challenge got underway, donations quickly flooded in from friends, family, and members of the local community, helping a very grateful Sampson complete his target within days, with the fundraising total eventually reaching an amazing £351.

Speaking following Sampson's selfless act, Leila, Sampson's mother, explained what inspired him to carry out his fantastic fundraising. She said:

"He was missing his after-school clubs and Mr Walker's [Penryn College Headteacher] outdoor one-way system between lessons, so he thought it would be a good way to make sure he kept active while raising money for the RNLI, due to his love for watersports."

Sampson added:

"I don't like being indoors all the time, so I thought it would help if I had a goal to get out every day and raise money for my favourite charity to help them save lives at sea."

All staff at Penryn College sent their congratulations to Sampson for his fantastic fundraising efforts.
