Coinciding with the start Sea Shanty Festival this afternoon will be the Falmouth Classic Sailing Regatta.

The event is in its 32nd year and it looks to be better than ever with groups from across Europe and the UK coming to Cornwall to race.

There are two races this afternoon, both starting in Carrick Roads. Later on, there is a welcome reception at Falmouth Art Gallery, followed by everyone joining in with the festivities at the Shanty Festival from 6:30pm onwards.

Falmouth Town Manager and Festival Chairman, Richard Gates, states in the official programme of events: "Classics Regatta, is due to the goodwill of the committee, groups, venues, volunteers, sound engineers and everyone else involved."

The deadline for Saturday daily entry and parade entry is 10am on Saturday morning with the third race starting at 11:30am, again at Carrick Roads.

The Greenbank Hotel will also be hosting the rowing and sculling competition at 4:30pm on Saturday.

A festival spokesperson, from the racing office at The Watersports Café, said: "We have twelve classes racing this morning and eleven tomorrow because the working boats will come in.

"Not all of the boats will be racing, some of them will be out in the parade on Sunday, at 10:30am at Carrick Roads, 1:30pm and around the harbour."

The event will come to a close with the final prizegiving at The National Maritime Museum, with the Sea Shanty Festival closing ceremony following shortly after.
