Dolphins performed stunning acrobatics for a Falmouth wildlife cruise company - the largest pod recorded on one of their trips.

Award-winning wildlife cruise, whale & dolphin watching, snorkeling adventure business AK Wildlife Cruises shared the details of the spectacular sight in Falmouth Bay, Saturday (7th).

The company was out on one of their regular trips when the bottlenose dolphins swarmed the sea, jumping 20ft in the air, performing backflips, and somersaults. It is estimated that 200 dolphins including many calves could be seen from the boat.

To put it into perspective, the local business usually records large offshore groups around once or twice a year if they're lucky - so this was quite spectacular for all onboard.

A spokesperson for AK Wildlife Cruises commented:

"We had a once in a lifetime experience on Saturday with what we believe to be our largest pod of bottlenose dolphins ever recorded on one of our trips.

"Occasionally we record large offshore groups around once or twice a year. We estimated over 200 individuals including many calves covering a huge area of sea and in every direction we looked. And what a show they put on.

"We watched in amazement as they performed incredible acrobatics including 20ft jumps into the air, backflips, and somersaults, and they also came over to bow-ride Free Spirit. Thank you to the wonderful company we had on board and got to share this with, especially Emily who was a little superstar."

With the forecast looking fantastic for Saturday (14th), AK Wildlife Cruises still have spaces on their 4 hour trip. If you would like to join them email [email protected].
