People in Pool, Penzance and Bodmin who have a fear of falling over or have lost confidence in their mobility after a trip or a fall are being urged to sign up to a new fitness and mobility course to help them get back on their feet again.

Cornwall Council Public Health are funding 'Move More Cornwall' which is a 25 week course designed by physiotherapists and health professionals, to help reduce falls.

The course is delivered by iCareiMove in partnership with Cornwall Council, Age UK Cornwall and Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The classes, launched in Pool, Penzance and Bodmin are suitable for people who may have tripped or fallen in the past. They may use a walking stick or walking aid. They may have been in hospital previously and have lost some confidence.

The aim is to help people become stronger and more active to help prevent falls and improve wellbeing in later life. Age UK Cornwall will talk to each person before joining to make sure the course is suitable for them.

Mandy Moses from Penryn saw great success after following a similar programme supplied by the company iCareiMove which allowed her to watch and follow a set of exercises tailored to her needs.

Mandy said: "Before I started, I was hardly able to leave my house but by doing the exercises I'm now able to go out and see my friends and family. It has made a huge difference to my life."

Cornwall Council public health consultant Rachel Wigglesworth said:" You might have a family member, neighbour or loved one that could really benefit from this course.

"It's a great opportunity for someone to regain their confidence and get mobile again for whatever reason, we'd urge anyone interested to get in touch with Age UK and book a place on the course"

People can find out more and sign up by contacting Age UK Cornwall through their helpline on 01872 266388 or by emailing [email protected]

Volunteers to help deliver the course are also needed so anyone interested can get in touch with Age UK using the same contact details.
