Multiple reports of residents allowing their dogs into Falmouth play areas sparks concern
Falmouth Town Council have today (14th September) released a statement warning dog owners against bringing their pet into Falmouth's play areas.
Dogs are not permitted in play areas due to the risk of aggression and an infection called Toxocariasis.
The infection is a rare one which is caused by roundworm parasites.
"Humans can catch it from handling soil or sand contaminated with infected animal faeces," a spokesperson for Falmouth Town Council said.
"Roundworm parasites are most commonly found in cats, dogs and foxes, and usually affect young children.
"This is because children are more likely to come into contact with contaminated soil when they play and put their hands in their mouths."
One resident has questioned the rules, asking: "Thank you for the information. I wonder why it's okay for dogs to be on the town beaches in the summer when children are playing then?"
Falmouth Nub News has contacted the council for more information on how they are enforcing these rules.
