Meet the artist behind Falmouth’s murals
You may have spotted the mural down by the Castle Beach Café that many locals have praised after it was shared on social media.
The cafe shared how pleased they were with how it turned out, saying: "What a brilliant splash of colour to enhance the natural beauty of the beach."
Holly Astle got asked to do the mural while finishing another piece of work she had done in the town, she explained: "The mural came about whilst working on one for Falmouth Town Council. The owner of the beach cafe passed me whilst I was painting and asked if I would be interested in doing one at castle beach, so I took his email and reached out about it."
Holly is an illustrator based in Falmouth and says she uses her local surroundings for inspiration such as coastal walks and the wildlife surrounding them with an aim to 'capture the essence of Cornwall' Holly went on to point out the other murals she has painted in the area: "I've designed two murals and painted three, one is on Dracaena Avenue which says 'SOS Save Our Seas' it was in partnership with Plastic Free Falmouth."
The other is up at the Lawn Steps behind the town, on Gyllyng Street, for the Town Council.
The third was a private commission for a lovely man in Flushing whose late wife was an artist, it was her artwork I painted on the wall for that one.
It was clear that Holly has a real passion for her work and the inspiration Cornwall can offer. She shared how important art can be for the town, adding: "Falmouth can absolutely benefit from murals. Falmouth is such an artistic, vibrant town and I love seeing that represented through wall paintings. I hope I've made a good contribution to this and done the town proud; I've really enjoyed making them and had some lovely feedback."
