In a regular feature, Mayor Steve Eva and Deputy Cllr Kirstie Edwards provide an update on the things going on at the Town Council.

Both mayors address the community weekly writing about what they have been up to, their committees/meetings, and any issues/news affecting residents in the town.

This is what the pair had to say about the events over the past week and going forward...

A shorter report from me this week, after a quieter week. The week has mostly been about meetings and presentations. Our local climate working group got together to look at what we are doing in our respective towns and villages locally, its really important to share ideas and projects so we can have a bigger collective impact.

I've had a few meetings looking at the budget and also at our carbon audit, a piece of work we will continue to share and use as an action plan moving forward.

Thursday, I spent the afternoon at the listening day, organised by Georgias Voice. It was a wonderful event and a great opportunity to meet with the many and varied local support groups locally.

It was brilliant to have lots of awesome people under one roof making connections and sharing information with one another. Yet another example of team work making the dream work. Huge congratulations to Sophie at GV for organizing and inviting us and for the positive impact that her work continues to have.

The weekend saw me attending the 20th anniversary of the Cornwall Film festival. I was lucky to attend a couple of fabulous films and have some pretty great conversations surrounding the issues and challenges, but importantly the solutions to some of the battles we are facing on climate change.

I never fail to leave inspired by the many great people we have in Cornwall using creative ways to address the climate emergency. It always fires me up, sometimes we all need to remember why we give our time. When you are drowning in emails and paperwork, sometimes its important to get outside in nature and have those inspiring conversations, that gives you the will to keep going.

We have had our first covid jab drop in for a while, it was hugely busy and the NHS team there was working very hard in our building, to get through people as soon as they can. We will keep asking for more of these and please do try and get your vaccines and boosters booked in.

We have been full steam ahead preparing for Christmas Lights switch on which takes place on Thursday 25th November. It starts with Father Christmas parading from Events Square to the Moor at approximately 5:30pm, then entertainment on the Moor and Lighting up at 7pm.

Followed on Sunday 28th with the Christmas Tree lighting at the Princess Pavilion starting at 5pm.

I was invited to open the new path from Falmouth Golf Club to Swanpool Beach, this will enable residents and visitors a much safer walk to the beach avoiding a very dangerous section of the road.

I was shown around the new clubhouse which I must say is very impressive and is open to non-members for food and drinks. The same evening I was invited back as a friend of Keith Kellie who is retiring after 47 years as a greenkeeper and will I've no doubt be sorely missed by all at the club. A fantastic buffet was supplied by the owner David Hughes as a thanks to Keith for all he's done.

I attended a meeting of Mayors online and the main topic was the closure of leisure centres which we are still fighting against.

Later that day I attended an open day for charities who are there to help all those suffering from Mental Health issues and for those who think this does not happen to people in Cornwall; you are sadly mistaken. Well done to all involved in these charities and a thanks to Kirstie our Deputy Mayor who also attended, and was like me impressed with the efforts from companies there.

I attended a get together put on by Johnathon Black to thank all those from Cornwall who worked to ensure the G7 went safely. I still believe it was great for Falmouth, and many of those who were connected to the putting on of the G7 have said they loved Falmouth and will return for a holiday.

I attended KCM Parish church to a Special Service to remember those sadly passed over the last two years especially during this covid period. Some could not say goodbye as they would have wished due to lockdown rules. It was a lovely service that was well received by those who attended.
