Falmouth Lifeboat has thanked an ex-Merchant Navy seaman for donating hundreds of pounds to their branch.

Eric Mager raised £600 for the Falmouth RNLI in 2023 and raised a similar amount last year. Falmouth Lifeboat shared the news on social media and thanked Eric for his support.

The lifeboat team shared that Eric decided to start raising money for them after being rescued by members from Falmouth.

Eric was originally from Cleethorpes on the Humber estuary, but came to Falmouth on a ship and loved the area so much that he decided to move to the town.

On the post thanking him, Falmouth Lifeboat said: "Eric returns to Cleethorpes once a year and meets up with fellow ex-Merchant Navy colleagues for a social get-together and also to raise money for charity by holding an auction.

"This year about 100 ex-Merchant Navy people turned up to support the event. Half the money raised is given to the RNLI with the other half going to another charity.

"One of the reasons Eric has chosen to support Falmouth RNLI is because he was once rescued by Falmouth Lifeboat while home on leave several years ago. The fishing boat he was out on had an engine problem and refused to start.
