Suspected arson following blaze at Nick Ferris Skip Hire, Longdowns

Local fire crews were scrambled to tackle a blaze at a local skip hire business near Penryn.

In a statement, the police added:

"Following further enquiries this fire is now not being treated as suspected arson at this time. The fire service remain on scene."


A fire at Nick Ferris Skip Hire overnight is suspected to have been started on purpose.

Firefighters were battling a blaze at the business, Longdowns near Penryn since 7:45pm yesterday evening (Monday 31st).

Fire engines from Falmouth, Helston, and Tolvaddon attended along with water carriers from Helston and Wadebridge, and a welfare unit from St Dennis.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and main jets to extinguish the fire.

Crews remained at the scene until 7am the following morning damping down the scene.

In an update a Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson told Nub News:

"Large warehouse fire containing skip waste in Penryn.

"Initial assessment from the fire service is that the fire is believed to be suspicious.

"We have been contacted and are treating as arson at this time.

"Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious at the premises yesterday evening from 5.30pm is asked to contact police via [email protected] with crime reference CR/009147/22."

Work is ongoing at the scene.
