On Saturday, a team of runners from Falmouth will take on the Classic Quarter Trail Run to raise awareness for The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).
CALM is leading a movement against male suicide, the biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK.
The Endurance Life Classic Quarter route is from The Lizard to Lands' End. The race is in a relay format with nine members covering distances of 9km and 13km.
One of the team members is Dawn Jones, who works at the Seaview Inn, Falmouth.
Several members of the team have been affected by male suicide, Dawn explained how the idea of running for CALM really struck a chord with the team: "As a country we don't talk about mental health enough as there has always been a stigma attached to it, and I believe it is slightly harder for men to talk about it openly because people always say you have to man up or you can't get emotional because you are a man.
"It just made me think, the next run I do maybe it could be for a charity that is involved with the prevention of male suicide."
Dawn set up a JustGiving page, which has been well received, with the total donations reaching nearly £1,000. There have also been other fundraising events, with a pop-up café organised at Dawn's home which raised just over £800 in three hours. The target amount was £2,000, and the team is well on their way to reaching it.
Dawn Jones, added: "I think with the publicity that has been in the national press, it has really helped CALM because it is really out there at the moment, and the stigma is being pushed aside and people are willing to talk about it."
