The Labour Party Parliamentary candidates for Camborne, Redruth & Hayle, and Truro & Falmouth have issued a statement outlining Labour's commitment to devolution without the need for a Mayor for Cornwall.

The statement from Perran Moon (Camborne, Redruth & Hayle) and Jayne Kirkham (Truro & Falmouth) is supported by the Labour Group on Cornwall Council and follows the chaotic Cornwall Council meeting on Tuesday, Cornwall Councillors trade blows on mayoral referendum and failed to support a motion giving a guarantee that the people of Cornwall would have their say on whether or not to accept a Mayor for Cornwall.

The statement reads:

"The next Labour government is committed to devolving powers to local communities and regions, including Cornwall. But we will not dictate Cornish governance arrangements or insist on a Mayor for Cornwall."

Its believed that later today the government will offer Cornwall a devolution deal but will insist a locally elected mayor would be needed as part of the deal.
