Kill The Bill: Protesters take to the streets of Falmouth

By Joseph Macey 16th Sep 2021

Protesters have taken to the streets of Falmouth this afternoon in a Kill The Bill protest.

In Bristol last weekend, thousands gathered in the first major protest against the Government's controversial Police and Crime Bill.

It's a reference to attempts to end the controversial law proposal that would give police and the Home Secretary increased powers to stop protests.

Protesters have gathered in their numbers this afternoon in Falmouth, at The Moor and most recently Events Square, the event reads:

"On Saturday the 27th March, people in Cornwall will come together in Falmouth to reiterate their collective opposition to the Police, Crime and Sentencing Bill. It will be a socially distanced protest and mask-wearing is encouraged.

"Last week hundreds of people marched through the streets of Truro in protest at these draconian laws. We refuse to accept that 10 years in prison for peaceful protest is reasonable.

"We refuse to accept the criminalisation of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities that this bill facilitates. We refuse to stand by and witness the death of democracy.

"The media and police narrative of the events in Bristol have shocked us all. It's clear they want us divided. But we will not be divided.

"We remain united in our resistance. We fight together, we stay strong, and we fight to kill the bill."

A witness told Nub News that there is a police presence at the demonstration.
