Council tax bills look set to increase on average by just over £70 to pay for services from Cornwall Council and Devon and Cornwall Police.

With Cornwall Council's budget proosals set to go before full council on Tuesday full details of proposed increases have been published.

Councillors will be asked to vote on plans to raise the council's share of council tax by 3.99% for 2020/21.

This includes a general increase of 1.99% along with a 2% charge for adult social care.

For a band D property, the share of council tax for the council will be £1,588.02 – an increase of £60.93 compared to last year.

Devon and Cornwall's police and crime commissioner Alison Hernandez has agreed a 4.41% increase in the police's share of council tax bills.

This means that the police's share for a Band D property for 2020/21 will be £221.64 – an increase of £9.36 compared to last year.

It means the bill for council tax in Cornwall for the council and police for a band D property will be £1,809.66.

In addition, residents also have to pay charges set by parish and town councils which vary in each area.

With town and parish councils have taken over a variety of services from Cornwall Council – including running public toilets, libraries and parks – many have had to increase their rates to cover the costs.

However with the town and parish councils taking on various levels of services it has led to differences between how much residents pay according to where they live in Cornwall.

A Band D property in Bodmin will have a council tax bill of £2,144.62 for 2020/21 while a Band D property in Fowey will pay £1,910.42 – a difference of more than £230.

Below we have the rates for some of the largest towns in Cornwall including what the final council tax bills will be for a Band D property if Cornwall Council agrees on the budget next week.
