The Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth has received 'informal' advice from Cornwall Council for a proposed expansion and refurbishment on the site.
The plans include relocating the existing conference and events suite to a new purpose-built restaurant and events area on the waterfront side. 30 additional bedrooms split between the area above the new restaurant, redundant event space, and in the conversion of the current under-croft parking area.
There will also be a new parking area adjacent to the public highway, created along the North Parade to the north of the hotel. Accessible parking to the front of the hotel and an extension to the front of the hotel (lower ground) to create a new (relocated) kitchen.
It is thought that despite minimal change to the hotel footprint there will be no overall increase in height expected.
The Greenbank say they aim to improve the function of the hotel, "through an enhanced visual appearance, modernisation of openings (to assist in reducing carbon footprint), and greater long-term viability through bettering the tourist offer."
Some of the concerns listed included the visual Impacts considering the hotel is a significant building on the waterfront and the removal of a significant length of hedge bank and shrubbery to construct the parking bays.
The council has said: "Overall, should the concerns listed above be addressed, it is considered that an application as indicated could be supported at officer level."
