Good Vibes Cafe, based on Killigrew Street recently started up a new delivery service to maintain some income during lockdown.

The delivery service started off brightly with owners Daniel Rossiter and Jade Phipps delivering to 70 houses on the first day.

Jade Phipps told Nub News:

"We have done two weeks of Saturday deliveries now, we worked out that even though we had the small business grant and we furloughed the staff we still wouldn't be able to keep paying the rent for the cafe.

"I was actually pessimistic about how the Saturday deliveries would go and I thought people wouldn't want to spend the money on it but we put some feelers out on social media and the response we got was just huge."

Good Vibes offer a Signature Sandwich with either bacon, feta or beetroot & a topped cinnamon bun for £10 OR 3x topped cinnamon buns for £10.

In the first week, Daniel and Jade went to almost 70 houses in one day and last week went to 30 houses, which Jade says is a good amount for them to do but they have noticed a "drop off."

She continued:

"I think at first people were excited about the novelty of it. I feel like if we had done just a couple of weeks people would have been more eager to order but because it is in a routine now it is slowing down a little bit.

Jade told Nub News about the difficult situation the cafe has been left in but they are determined to "carry on."

She added:

"The week before we closed it was really awful, we were so quiet and we knew what was coming. I remember when I was closing up I remember saying 'I am not coming back' even though we hadn't heard anything yet, the PM had told people to stop going out to cafes but hadn't told them to close so we were in a really sticky situation."

On the evening when the PM told everywhere to shut, Daniel and Jade closed up and furloughed the staff, the pair closed down for a few weeks but realised they had "to do something" to pay the rent.

"We are quite realistic and I don't think either of us saw this as a quick thing, I don't expect cafes and restaurants to be open for months and months properly. I feel like we were really ready for that so any sort of upgrade on nothing is kind of good," Jade said.

"The financial help was good at the beginning but it is not going to last forever obviously, furlough only lasts for three months and after that, we won't be able to afford to pay the staff.

"They will have to at least extend furlough because I don't want to lose any of our team or leave any of them in the lurch."
