Penryn-based charity BF Adventure is currently recruiting 16 and 17-year-olds to join its exciting and highly rewarding National Citizen Service (NCS) programme for Autumn 2021.
The programme sees these young people enjoying adventurous activities, learning invaluable life skills and making a difference in their community. They can either come by themselves (with the friendly team, they'll never be alone and they'll be able to meet new people) or come with a group of friends.
This is an incredibly fun opportunity for young people to make up for lost time over lockdown and achieve new things.
We operate by a 'challenge by choice' model, which gives young people confidence, resilience and self-belief. Participants get to build their aspirations, independence and communication, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills. The programme is also highly valued by employers, colleges and universities.
97% of last year's cohort said that they would recommend the programme and one parent commented:
"It turned my daughter's life around. She was depressed, anxious, insomniac, not eating. She now has friends, sleep routine, exercises, has a job, gone back to education, has aspirations and enthusiasm for the future."
The programme summarised BF Adventure has teamed up with NCS to deliver an incredible programme! It'll kick off on 23rd October, with 3 amazing days of activities on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will then focus on developing vital life skills, and you'll have Friday off to relax! What better way to spend the Half Term.
The following 2 weekends will be spent working on an exciting social action project, so you get to make a difference in your community.
The first three days, 'Be Epic', are full of adventurous activities at BF Adventure, including canoeing, coasteering (in the quarry!), team building, climbing and abseiling, Via Ferrata, raft building, bushcraft, catapult challenges, zip-lining and low ropes. There's also a night walk and the chance to bond over a campfire.
Sharing the same site as BF Adventure is its social enterprise, Via Ferrata Cornwall – which offers the only full Via Ferrata experience in South England!
This ultimate high wire adventure sees participants journeying through historic granite quarries by scaling cliff faces, wobbling across the high wire bridge – a 70m long single strand of wire stretching over the quarry water, and soaring through the air on one of the most scenic zip wires in Cornwall.
So much more than just an adrenaline rush, this adventure is the perfect way to conquer fears, make amazing memories, try something unique and push one's limits in a completely safe environment.
The next three days, 'Live Life', allows the young people to gain invaluable life skills. Whether that's cooking, preparing for their UCAS application or developing their CV, it's sure to stand them in good stead for the future.
The third aspect, which happens over the following two weekends (30th-31st October and 6th-7th November), is 'Do Good'- a social action project that involves teams working together to come up with ideas and make a difference. It's a chance for these young people to leave a legacy in the community and focus on causes that they're passionate about. BF Adventure supports some of Cornwall's most vulnerable children and young people facing life's toughest challenges.
Last year, NCS participants played a crucial role in site maintenance, developed over 1.5km of nature trails and worked with the #iwill campaign.
Covid-safe
The programme has been adapted to ensure social distancing and covid-safe operations. BF Adventure has been operating throughout the pandemic to support vulnerable children and the site is certified by both the AA and 'We're Good to Go'.
How to sign up
The programme is free for Autumn 2021 and is open to all 16-17 year olds including those with additional needs. To learn more and register your interest, visit the NCS website (wearencs.com). Any questions can be sent to [email protected].
