Former professional footballer and Helston Athletic director of football Steve Massey has released an autobiography about his career that took him from Stockport all the way down to Cornwall - Where's My Towel?: A Life in and out of Football.

Steve has had quite the career scoring goals everywhere he's been, starting out at his boyhood club Stockport County where he played up front for one game with the one and only George Best.

He later finished his playing career at Truro City before managing the side on three occasions and even had a period on the touchline at Falmouth Town, Steve is now the director of football at Helston Atheltic.

Having played at a number of clubs such as A.F.C Bournemouth, Peterborough United, Hull City, and Wrexham Steve always had the idea of writing a book. After working in Cornish football for many years people would often tell him that he should but Steve would always say "I wouldn't know how to go about it".

Everything changed for Steve when he was approached by successful author and Northampton Town Fan Rodney Marshall, Steve enjoyed one of his most successful periods in terms of goal scoring while at Northampton scoring 25 goals in 60 games and was one of Rodney's childhood heroes.

Rodney told Steve that they had actually spoken when he was around 14, he sat in front of Steve in the crowd when he had to miss a game and managed to have a quick conversation. All these years later the two of them have now created a book after meeting up and exchanging ideas.

However Steve believes he may have to do a follow-up book on all his tales in Cornish football, he said: "With all the characters I've met I have said to people in the past if I do write a book there will have to be a whole chapter on you! So there could definitely be a follow-up."

Steve is currently touring the book at some of the clubs he's played for and although he's had some pre-match nerves it has all been worth it, he said: "I started the launch at Stockport my hometown, I got to go in the hospitality room and then they got me out on the pitch at half time it was really emotional."
