A court has been hearing details of how the former deputy head of Falmouth School is alleged to have groomed teenage girl students before having sex with them.

Terence Burke, 74, who now lives in Swindon, is on trial at Truro Crown Court. He has pleaded not guilty to all counts of historic sex offences as he faces four charges of incitement to commit an act of gross indecency, five charges of indecent assault, two charges of sex with a girl under 16, three charges of sexual activity with a girl under 16, abusing a position of trust and two charges of inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity whilst in a position of trust.

The jury has been told by two former pupils that Burke, a married man at the time, initially helped them with studies then made the relationships more personal, and eventually they led to sexual activity. They say he took them to hotels and his house to have sex, which also took place in the back of his car.

The court was told Burke spent thousands on the girls, including giving them gifts and cash.

Counsel for Burke has told the court that the stories are all fictitious and made up by the women who had initially attempted to blackmail him

The trial continues.
