Falmouth: Woodland fire on Helford River
Falmouth firefighters used a fire boat to tackle a woodland blaze over the weekend.
Just after 12:30pm on Sunday (7th) a crew from Falmouth was called to smoke coming from Groyne Point, Helford River.
One acre of woodland was reportedly involved in the incident.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue added: "Critical Control received a call to smoke issuing from a wooded area. Firefighters from Falmouth Community Fire Station were mobilised to investigate.
"On arrival, approximately one acre of woodland area was smouldering. Due to the rural location and difficult access, the Fire Boat from Falmouth was also mobilised to assist crews in dealing with the fire.
"Firefighters using beaters and with the assistance of the fire boat to pump from open water, are at work extinguishing the fire."
The fire service remained on the scene until the evening, adding: "Firefighters still in attendance making area safe, fire contained using a main jet supplied by fire boat."
