A Falmouth woman has been buying and distributing PPE to care workers around the community after she saw how high the demand was.
Sara Collins - Bramwell, Falmouth, has bought hundreds of personal protective equipment for the people who need it most around the town.
A post on Facebook by a carer in desperate need of PPE sparked Sara to do her bit for the community and buy some gear out of her own pocket.
Sara told Nub News:
"I put a post up saying I would give some stuff away for free and the response I got was unbelievable.
"The nursing homes and the carers seem to have little to no protection at all. They have one mask that has to last them for as long as possible.
"I just wanted to do my bit for the community."
Sara has also targeted the suppliers to ask if they can donate any of the items, to which a few of them have agreed.
Sara said:
"I also asked the suppliers if they would be willing to donate ten aprons and ten masks and a few of them have agreed to.
"I had to be careful because some of the suppliers wanted to charge a forty-pound delivery charge."
Sara will be delivering the gear from Friday through to Monday.
She says the groups in most need are those in care homes and carers visiting houses. "The hospital seems to be okay for stuff at the moment. "It is mainly for the carers on the streets who are visiting people's houses and the care homes, they're very unprotected at the moment." Sara has put out another post today as a final call for people to request what they need. She said: "I have got one hundred masks, fifty aprons and two hundred gloves. "I have put up another post today saying I will do one more shop as I am on limited funds myself, people can let me know what they need the most, and it seems to be masks at the moment. "I have ordered another sixty today."
