Falmouth Wetherspoons will close this week as work finally starts on its roof terrace.

The Packet Station, based on The Moor, will be hosting a fancy dress "closing down" party on Saturday 25th June with a free drink to the best dressed.

The pub will be closed until November 2022.

There have been numerous attempts to get approval for the roof terrace and beer garden. As reported by Nub News, the plans date back to 2017 with "significant alterations" made since then including limiting the hours of use.

A previous statement from the planning officer said the site was space was "underused" and home to "unsightly" ducting and ventilation.

The plans were refused in 2017, refused again upon appeal. Revised plans were then submitted in 2020 and approved the following year despite objections.

Some of the conditions on the approved application include:

  • The terrace cannot be used between 7pm and 9:30am.
  • No audible music (amplified/recorded, or live music) on the terrace.
  • All lights switched off within 30 minutes of deck closing.
  • Prior to the use of the deck, the external lighting to be used on the roof terrace should be submitted to and approved by the Local Planning Authority.
