Five Falmouth students have reinvented a 70ft wall in the playground of Marlborough School.

Amelia Brooks, Sophie Freestone, Ellie bird, Alina Everatt and Emily Tomlinson spent many eight hour days painting a mural to spruce up the playground.

It was just over a week ago that the wall was an aggressively grey canvas, a far cry away from the now imagination inducing burst of colour that takes its place.

The five girls worked through the school's break time and lunchtime and the children were allowed to come and put their input on the wall - giving ideas and even drawing some of the things themselves.

There was a no ball policy while the work was going on.

Nub News Falmouth went to spend some time with the artists as they were putting the finishing touches on to the project.

Amelia Brooks explained how the project came into their hands, she said:

"The headmistress got in contact with our lecturer, they came to us because they knew we had experience in creating Murals before.

"The job was ours straight away, all we had to do was contact the headmistress to see the space. It was the same day that we went and bought the paints, we couldn't wait to get started."

The mural is a colourful adventure through the rainforest featuring everything from partying pandas to frollicking unicorns.

The work is completely volunteer based with the girls using the art they have created for their portfolios and experience.

Some of the illustration students painted a mural last year for Penryn Primary Academy, which they say was only the height of the wall they have just done in Marlborough.

Sophie Freestone, another painter of the mural, told Nub News Falmouth:

"It's just been so amazing to see the reaction from the kids. I think it's important that they saw that these things don't just appear, I feel like they have learnt a lot about art.

"It's been such a good experience. It feels like we're leaving our mark on Falmouth before we leave for the next chapter of our lives".
