Employees from Trago Mills Falmouth are due to set off on the Smithy Memorial Walk - raising money for Cancer Research and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Chris Rowe and Pete Ironmonger, alongside Sarah Walters, will be taking on the walk in honour of their good friend and colleague Mike Smith - who sadly passed away in September 2018 whilst on holiday in Greece.

A previous fundraising event in 2019 raised over £1,000 for Cornwall Air Ambulance. This resulted in Mike's name being written on the underside of the new helicopter that was commissioned in 2021.

There is set to be a motorcycle memorial ride out later in the year. Prior to that, Chris, Pete, and Sarah will be walking from Trago Mills in Falmouth to the Liskeard branch tomorrow, Saturday 2nd April.

They're leaving Trago Falmouth at 6am and hope to make it to Liskeard by 6pm.

Chris and Pete told Nub News:

"We were constantly walking throughout lockdowns. Every other day we found ourselves walking miles and miles, as far as Mawnan Smith and back again.

"I was sat there on a January evening thinking how we could put these walks to good use. I sounded it up with the Deputy Manager (Jon Hilton) and he thought the fundraiser was a great idea - that's how the Smithy Memorial Walk was born.

"April 2nd we will be setting off early doors to walk the 40 miles to Trago Mills in Liskeard."

Jon Hilton posted on social media:

"They'll be wearing bright orange t-shirts so if you see the three of them, honk your horn, give them a wave and cheer them on."
