Falmouth Town Council has been looking at simple ways to begin implementing small changes in the area since declaring a climate emergency.

Some of these projects are thought to be taking longer to make them sustainable but some are being implemented immediately.

One of those is the Terracycle Crisp Packet Recycling Scheme.

Crisp packets can be taken into the information hub and library and be recycled.

However, the packets are first couriered to London, then transported to France for processing. The council realised the carbon footprint could be eliminated by looking a little closer to home.

Plastic Free Falmouth aided the effort by suggesting Penryn based company, Plastic Oceanic, who process nonrecyclable litter from beach cleans into jewellery.

The complete production of all the items from start to finish happens within 3 miles of their office. The crisp packets are also set to be used in an exciting new experimental product prototype.

There are collection points for the scheme at the garden centre and fire station in Falmouth.

The donation to the mayor's charity from Terracycle each month will be matched by Plastic Oceanic.
