Over £15,000 has been raised for vital work to reopen The Poly's stage.

Falmouth's central hub for theatre and arts started a crowdfunder in July to make repairs to the theatre.

During a covid enforced closure, The Poly underwent renovation works that involved removing and disposing of asbestos materials identified in the backstage area of the theatre.

Although some of it was funded through reserves, help was needed to meet the cost of the remaining repairs. Upgrades were also required to electrical systems in the theatre.

This week it was revealed the fundraiser had passed its target of £15,000 (£15,852, £1829 in gift aid).

The money will help with the following:

  • Reinstall and update audio/visual systems for live music and theatre events
  • Install a hearing loop to be used for all events in our auditorium
  • Replace the curtains and ropes on stage
  • Repair and redecorate areas affected by asbestos removal

A spokesperson for The Poly added: "We are pleased to announce that we made our crowdfunder target of £15,000 (even better yet we surpassed it).

"Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot to have the local community support us at this time.

"Watch this space - our stage will soon be back in action."

The crowdfunder page is still open for donations if you missed your chance - click here to donate.
