A Falmouth-based student nurse who has been rehabilitating local wildlife has raised the money to buy an essential incubator.

Chloe-Mai Burrows, a resident of Falmouth currently studying at Duchy College, has been inundated with animals needing help since lockdown following the closure of many local wildlife centres.

Since lockdown began, Chloe has helped 28 gull chicks, 5 sparrows, 3 hoglets, 4 Mice, 8 pigeons, 4 Wrens and lots more.

Chloe started a fundraiser to raise money for a 'Brinsea TLC 30 Advance Portable Brooder', an incubator which will help baby animals sustain their body temperature.

The incubator also comes with a car adaptor which means Chloe can start the heating process as soon as she's rescued the animal.

"Heat is so important as young animals aren't able to regulate their own body temperature and is an important part of treating shock as well," Chloe wrote on her fundraiser page.

"So far I have been using snuggle safes to keep my animals warm but these need reheating every couple of hours and don't give a reliable temperature which is essential in very young animals so I would love to have an incubator to do this to improve their chances of survival."

Chloe receives no financial support for the work she does - which means she pays for the equipment and food herself.

The target to buy the incubator was reached last night, just three hours after originally posting the fundraiser.

Chloe said:

"I've had so many youngsters that would benefit from being in an incubator but I didn't think the goal would be achievable and couldn't afford to purchase one myself.

"I genuinely can't thank you enough, I'm so excited for it to arrive."
