Falmouth School raise nearly £1,000 for Sport Relief
It was a busy week at Falmouth School for Sport Relief 2020 as an action-packed few days of activities saw around 100 students involved on a daily basis after school.
From Tuesday-Friday the school was a hub of activity, with staff v student games proving extremely popular.
Head of PE Christy Benney said:
"Our students demonstrated exceptional effort and commitment in taking on their teachers. All week there was such a fantastic buzz around the school with everyone excited to see who would win overall. We enjoyed many laughs together across the week and together as a school team we raised such a fantastic amount of money for such worthy causes.
"Rita has inspired us all and collected such a huge amount of money on her own which she must be commended for! I am very proud to be a part of a school where everyone cares so much about giving back to others. We are looking forward to our next big charity sporting event that will be taking place."
The competition included football, dodgeball, bench ball and basketball.
There is also a very special extra challenge in the pipeline for after the Easter holidays, as PSA student Rita Barker-Lyon looks to take on an incredible feat. Rita uses a wheelchair on a daily basis but as part of her physio each day, uses a frame to walk. Rita has set herself the challenge of a 501-meter walk, which would be a personal best and has already raised £122 of our final total all on her own. An incredible achievement!
Students (and staff) also enjoyed a non-school uniform day on Friday with a sports theme. BBC Radio Cornwall were live in reception from 7.45am, interviewing staff and students live on the radio with a real buzz within the school. Overall an incredible £952.34 was raised for the Sport Relief charity.
