South West Water (SWW) will be undertaking the installation of a new telemetry ducting and also the placing of two new small monitoring control kiosks on Market Street, High Street, and Webber Street in February and March.
These works are to give SWW advanced notice of the sewer system in key areas to help with the reduction of storm discharges into the water. The telemetry ducting will collect data which will then be sent back to SWW.
Town manager Richard Gates said that although there will be road closures, efforts have been made to reduce the disruption, he said: "only one road will be closed at a time and access will be maintained for deliveries via diversion routes, signage, and marshals will be in place as required.
"Works will be taken as quickly as possible to minimise disruption and wherever possible to reduce the timetable if feasible. Customer Liaison Officers will undertake visits to individual traders both prior to and during the works to discuss specific needs and any issues."
Richard Gates was hopeful that some of the work could be finished ahead of schedule, he said: The trench in these roads will only be 40cm wide to include the cabling, so it may be that work is completed quicker than expected but that will depend on how they get on."
He also wanted to point out that some businesses may have received letters from SWW for works on 18th Jan but that date provided is incorrect.
This project work will be undertaken in three sections as follows:
Market Street between 8th and 17th February - Work will be undertaken to lay a new telemetry duct and install a small kiosk base. This will be undertaken overnight between 7 pm and 7 am to minimise impacts on local businesses.
The second phase will be in the High Street between 13th February and 3rd March and will require laying new telemetry ducting. This will be undertaken during normal working hours.
The third phase will be in Webber Street between 27th February and 31st March. Laying new telemetry ducting and building a small control kiosk base.
These works will be undertaken by Glanville Environmental on behalf of South West Water. Richard Gates and the Falmouth Town team have asked that if people have any questions either before or during these works they have a direct contact.
