Falmouth RNLI and the local coastguard team were tasked yesterday afternoon (22nd) after an individual fell into the water between Flushing and Prince of Wales Pier.

A mayday relay broadcast was issued by the coastguard and vessels in the local area were requested to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 15:04 and headed up the harbour arriving on scene at 15:07.

It was soon established that the casualty had been recovered from the water by the crew of the harbour launch.

A spokesperson for Falmouth RNLI said:

"Following an initial assessment, it was decided to transfer the casualty to the Inshore Lifeboat and take them back to the lifeboat station where they could be warmed up and a further assessment could be carried out."

The casualty who had not been wearing a lifejacket had accidentally fallen into the water from their moored boat but had remained calm and once they had overcome the effects of cold-water shock had managed to grab a nearby mooring.

Falmouth RNLI added:

"The casualty had been in the water for over twenty minutes before being recovered from the water by the crew of the harbour launch which was not an easy feat given the prevailing weather conditions and potentially saved the casualties life."
