The rain didn't spoil the celebrations at the Recreation Ground on Saturday as Falmouth RFC hosted its Ready4Rugby Festival.

This week Falmouth chairman John Bullock told Nub News of his excitement ahead of the festival.

The day started with a tournament for the academy sides and a barbecue at lunchtime (cooking in various intervals from Mick Stevens, Tom Spiller and Falmouth Mayor Steve Eva.)

Awards were presented for players, volunteers and coaches with Alex Bullock, Seb Firth and Cam Bullock receiving their colours.

Mick Stevens won Falmouth Volunteer of the Year 2019-2020.

The club was presented with an RFU re-accreditation at the Ready4Rugby festival, the first in the county.

Jade Adkins won the RFU Mitsubishi Volunteer award with a Tickenham experience.

Ambassadors of the club were also handed their CRFU Board awards.

Chairman John Bullock told Nub News:

"We have had 60/70 kids here, a little ready for rugby festival and what has been really heartening is not only seeing them but also seeing parents and guardians watching their kids having fun.

"The joy on their faces watching the guys run around enjoying social contact, enjoying team sport it has been a really wonderful morning and now they are having a barbecue and we are looking for donations for Jays Aim a charity that has given us a defibrillator.

"We have an awards ceremony with the president of the Cornwall RFU and rugby for the seniors, a really great day here at Falmouth Rugby Club."

The seniors took to the field in the afternoon, Falmouth captain Tom Spiller told Nub News:

"It is great, you can see loads of people around, we all know it is a strange world we live in at the moment so having that outlet of sport will help physical wellbeing but also mental wellbeing being around your friends and family, this club is like a family."
