A restaurant in Falmouth has shared its joy after receiving a highly esteemed award in only its second year of business.

Despite opening last April (2022), The Mulberry Falmouth has already received two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence.

Owners and co-head chefs Harry Cartwright and Jay Brady have never run a restaurant before but say they are delighted to be recognised and excited to help keep pushing the food scene in Falmouth.

Harry explained to Nub News that once The Mulberry had signed up for the AA scheme they were told an inspector would visit them in the next 14 weeks.

The inspections are kept a secret until the dining experience has finished. Toward the end of July, the team finally received their visit and it was confirmed they had achieved two Roesttes.

The ranking system starts at one and goes up to five rosettes which is a similar rating over Michelin star restaurants. On the AA website, it states that only around 10% of restaurants nationwide are at a standard that is worthy of one Rosette and above.

AA also gives a description of what a two Rosette ranking means: " Excellent restaurants that aim for and achieve higher standards and better consistency. A greater precision is apparent in the cooking, and there will be obvious attention to the selection of quality ingredients."

After the visit in July, Harry said: " We received some great feedback from the inspector and they said we could be pushing for three rosettes soon."

Not only was Harry excited about the future for The Mulberry but he also felt proud of the food scene within Falmouth. He said: "It's great to have other independent restaurants like MINE and Culture. We're all working to push the food scene and attract people to the area.

"If you were visiting Falmouth you could have three fine dining experiences that are all completely different."

Culture Restaurant was awarded a Michelin Green Star back in March.

Although The Mulberry offers a great fine dining experience customers can also try out their small plates and the taster menu that offers great quality food at a lower cost.
