The reopening of McDonald's in Falmouth was the time for celebration for hundreds of residents last week, though many were indeed sceptical at the time, a large number of residents are now actively speaking out on a reported increase of litter since the fast-food drive-thru resumed.

A resident has reported picking up twenty different pieces of McDonald's litter on Swanpool Beach within twenty-four hours of it reopening in the area.

"Within 24hrs of its opening, I picked up 20 pieces of McDonald's branded rubbish on a walk with my dog around Swanpool. It makes me so angry," Nicki said on social media.

Litter has also been reportedly found in other areas of the town, including up near Pendennis Point.

Some residents have spoken in support of McDonald's and feel that they are not to blame.

"You can't blame McDonald's, it's their customers," one resident wrote.

On the first day of reopening, McDonald's Falmouth had long queues during rush hour - with traffic blocking up Dracaena Avenue for a short while.

Immediately after the food was bought, residents claimed to see customers throwing litter out of their car into the car park.

On social media, Falmouth and Penryn locals have been discussing ways the McDonald's could deter the littering.

"They should take the registration of the cars and print it on the packaging so that it can be handed back to them with a fine," one resident suggested.

"Do a litter pick and take it back to Mcdonalds..they will take notice," another person wrote.
